About me
The road to my dream of becoming a Psychologist led me the long way round…
It all started in 2000 when I registered to study an honours degree in Social Work with psychology as additional main subject at the Northwest University, Potchefstroom campus. After completing the degree in 2003, I started working at an NGO as a Social Worker. I had planned to work and study psychology part time, but I quickly realised that working and studying was a challenge I wasn’t ready for. At 21 I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted out of life and it led me on an adventure of self-discovery. I took on every opportunity that presented itself and inadvertently studied at the university of life for 6 years. I worked in administration, marketing, sales, banqueting, and recruitment. It was the hospitality industry that took me all the way to a job onboard the luxury cruise liners in America.
At some point on my journey I realized that my lifelong dream of being a psychologist was still alive and well, and I returned to University from 2010 to 2013, to obtain my honours degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in both Research- and Clinical Psychology. The final step to achieve this dream was an internship year completed at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital in 2014 and a Community Service year at Helen Joseph Hospital in 2015.
I have been in private practice since 2016 and I am living my passion working in both Afrikaans and English with adults in relationship- and individual therapy. I have a special interest in relationship therapy, and I am LGBTQIA+ allied. I strive to help enhance and support healthier, connected relationships with open and direct communication.
I took the road less travelled and feel honoured now to be invited by you to travel on a part of your journey with you. To do so holistically, I make use of an integrative approach to ensure that the therapy suits your needs and make use of various therapeutic modalities in my work.
